The National Under-21 (U-21) football league received a significant financial boost yesterday, after a $71.1 million deal, for three years, was inked between the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and Wisynco, local distributors of the Coca-Cola brand.

The Wisynco Group has stopped producing the popular Bigga Cola soft drinks to concentrate on manufacturing and distributing the international brand Coca-Cola range of sodas and flavoured drinks.
Director of sales at Wisynco, Hal Holness told the Financial Gleaner that his company stopped producing the flavour as a condition of them accepting the local franchise to manufacture and distribute Coca-Cola products. He said Bigga Cola would have been in direct competition with Coca-Cola.

The Wisynco Group has set its sights on extending its distribution deal under the Glaceau line of products after beverage maker Coca-Cola, whose products Wisynco is exclusively licensed to distribute on the local market, announced last week that it will buy Glaceau for US$4.1 billion, its largest acquisition ever.

Revenues at non-alcoholic beverage manufacturer and distributor Wisynco have grown by 30 per cent since January.
Leading this growth are the Ocean Spray and Wata brands, which have actually grown more than 30 per cent individually.

Distribution company Wisynco, headed by William Mahfood, is now constructing a 260,000 square-foot logistic warehouse and distribution centre that the company expects to be completed in April this year. Wisynco's expansion efforts are expected to come in at J$1 billion.Wisynco has ambitious plans to manufacture cranberry juice drink Ocean Spray here in Jamaica for the Caribbean market. This week the company began production of Coca-Cola for the Jamaican market.

There's a new taste of energy in Jamaica and it is looking to 'blow away' the competition.Ciclón, pronounced cyclone (although the Latin-tongued among us would say 'si-clon'), is Wisynco's answer to the popular Red Bull. The drink was launched at the Terra Nova Hotel on Wednesday night and it was a sporting affair in décor and activity.

Beverage company Wisynco Group Limited is to make a $600 million investment in a bottling plant to be constructed near Lakes Pen, St. Catherine, the Financial Gleaner understands.
Sources said Wisynco is primarily to bottle the Coca Cola range of products in Jamaica, having taken over the distribution contract formerly held by Facey Commodity Limited.

Nutritious cranberry drink flooded the Jamaican market 10 years ago and, since July of this year, the country has surpassed the United States as its number one consumer per capita based on sales of Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice. Ocean Spray is a 100-year-old brand in the U.S., but Jamaica is ahead by 10 per cent in sales.
