Coca Cola Jouvert...Dreadfully Pleasing

Monday, March 31, 2008

Paint, paint and more paint was what the Coca Cola Jo'uvert promised, but following its successful staging the headlines should now scream 'Fun cyaan done". Last Friday, when revellers flocked the Mas Camp they expected nothing but the best and these expectations were met as Coca Cola surely delivered.

As patrons walked through the glowing tunnel entrance and were greeted by stick walkers, Coca Cola fire girls and painted fire breathers, the mood was set for the ultimate nightmare. This nightmare was so fully equipped with all the appealing trappings that anyone who got trapped therein wished they'd never awake.

David Burton, Wisynco's development manager, pointed to Wisynco's commitment to culturally-based events by saying, "Choosing to sponsor Coca Cola jo'uvert became much more than a mere sponsorship for us, hence we incorporated cultural elements such as the stick walkers to balance the fun and the cultural aspect."

Miss Kitty's entrance on stage signalled the start of the real vibes and excitement segment as she led the Coca Cola fire girls into tantalising dance routines and hosted an exciting activities and giveaways section. At minutes after midnight when she invited Shurwayne Winchester on stage, the event became a frenzied spectacle. Winchester proved he was worth his 'wine' with hits such as Rum in the Morning, Whole Day and Carnival Stay and when he removed his shirt, the screams echoed for miles around. Traffik also kept the high energy going throughout the night hitting just the right notes to keep the crowd in all the right moods.

At minutes after three when Mas Camp migrated to the streets the real action began as bucket loads of paint were used to douse everyone within arm's reach and this paint dousing and gyrating along the streets continued well into morning.

Even as the sun rose above the horizon, the streets of New Kingston were lined with revellers enjoying the vibes, moving to the beats and begging for more and when all were back to the Mas Camp they showed no signs of leaving. Coca Cola Jo'uvert enjoyed a huge turnout, excellent performances and most of all, overly satisfied patrons.
