Bigga to honour 12 excellent women
Jamaican soft drink company Wisynco Group Limited, through it’s flagship brand Bigga, will be honouring 12 women who have excelled in their respective fields on Saturday, April 24 at the Bigga Jamaica Oaks Day, which will be held at Caymanas Track Limited in St Catherine. The Bigga Jamaica Oaks Race Day was originally celebrated as an ladies’ day because on this day, only female horses or ‘Fillies’ will race, and this year they will contend for the Bigga-sponsored purse of $1-million.
The 12 awardees are women that represent a variety of professions and backgrounds which is something Kimberly Lawson and her team at Bigga are proud they were able to accomplish.
“We set out to find some women who were doing more than just ‘really well’ in their fields, and what we found were 12 women who are well accomplished, astounding, and astute professionals and persons,” Lawson said.
Lawson, who is the Public Relations, Events and Sponsorship Manager at Wisynco, said that the women are “Jamaicans whom the world can look on and admire their achievements and their aptitude to do even more.” Lawson will make the official announcement of the nominees later today, Tuesday April 12, at the launch of the much anticipated race day
The awardees are Andrea Wright who will be honoured for her work in theatre, as will Dahlia Harris who will be honoured for her work in theatre and broadcasting. Also on the list is Andrea Coy, Tina Myers-Matalon and Marlene Malahoo-Forte who will be honoured for their endeavours in business. Paula Anne Porter-Jones will be honoured for her work in broadcasting and Sharon Schroeter for her work in media as producer extraordinaire. The sporting maverick that is Simone Forbes will be recognised for her contribution to the five sports she plays at the national level, while Kimala Bennett will be recognised for her excellent work in videography and directing. Rounding out the awardees are Tara Playfair-Scott who will receive her award for stellar accomplishments in the field of communication and marketing and Dr Carolyn Gomes who will be awarded for her work in human rights advocacy.
The Bigga Oaks Day will take place at the Caymanas Race Track in St Catherine, on Saturday April 24. The soft drink brand will honour 12 women at the event, in recognition of their accomplishments in their fields and contribution to Jamaica. After the race day, a concert featuring dancehall artiste Tifa and comedic duo Ity and Fancy Cat will excite patrons and awardees and close out the day’s event.
